We’ve been back just a week now from our dreamy California vacation, and let me tell you, the 70-degree temps, constant sun, and oceanside location had us momentarily re-considering our New England move. Was California more our style? The architecture was gorgeous, the gardens were in FULL bloom… it was idyllic. And it was expensive.

We stayed at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort in swanky Santa Barbara, CA. An awards trip for Jed, we could have never afforded to stay here ourselves, so the four nights and five days were a real treat.

We spent days hanging at the beautiful 1930’s Coral Casino Club, basking in the sun and swimming in the 80-degree Olympic sized pool (actually, the original owner made the pool just 1′ shorter than Olympic size, so he didn’t have Olympic athletes training in his exclusive club).

IMG_0309 This beautiful sunning area was just outside the locker rooms.IMG_0318 Each morning we walked through these gardens of lavender and boxwood to the breakfast area.IMG_0326 Some mornings we ate in the open-air patio overlooking the ocean, some mornings we stayed inside the main dining area, which was equally beautiful, with tiled fireplaces and fountains. Breakfast was truly a highlight of the day — we could order off the menu, or partake in the *cough* $32 per person buffet…. (thank goodness we had vouchers) which included an omelet station, charcuterie, fresh fruits, baked goods, organic yogurts, homemade granola, and juices.
IMG_0331 One afternoon we went out with a larger group on a coastal Catamaran. We were afforded gorgeous views of the coast, as well as unique seaside creatures, like these pelicans…IMG_0339 These (completely exhausted) sea lions…IMG_0348

And of course, the dolphins….

We also spent an afternoon trolleying into town and seeing the sites. We made a brief stop at the beautiful Spanish mission…

IMG_0433IMG_0431Back at the resort, we had no shortage of beauty and relaxation. IMG_0401IMG_0435 IMG_0438 It was truly a fabulous little getaway… a beautiful, relaxing, and completely luxurious few days to play like we were celebrities. That said, we missed our pups, ponies, and the first snow-melting weekend here in New Hampshire. It was time to get back and get going… As soon as we landed, it seemed, we were on the phone – making plans, discussing work to be done, things needing to be ordered. Spring… and normal life… is back in full swing…  the patio/backyard project is underway!
